75th Anniversary: Marjory Stoneman Douglas' Everglades: River of Grass

In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the publication of Marjory Stoneman Douglas's The Everglades: River of Grass, the Office of Civic and Community Engagement at the University of Miami invites you to join us as we celebrate this milestone. Regarded by many as a useless swamp, the Everglades moved to the forefront of the conservation dialogue after the release of Stoneman Douglas's 1947 book. Although she is best known for her work with the Everglades, Stoneman Douglas was also an outspoken advocate for women's rights, civil rights, and housing rights.

75th Anniversary Everglades National Park

Hosted and coordinated by the National Park Services, Everglades National Park was dedicated on December 6, 1947. While December 6, 2022, will be our actual 75th anniversary date, we think it's worth celebrating all year long.  In addition to UM's celebration of Marjory Stoneman Douglas' book, The Everglades: River of Grass, the Office of Civic and Community Engagement is delighted to share events connected to this dynamic ecosystem.  We invite the community to visit the National Parks website for local events and activities.
